Digital economy and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are growth sectors in Benin, but the country still lags behind its African contemporaries in the video game sector. However, with an estimated population of 12.9 million comprising mostly of younger population (less than 25 years) which makes up about 65.9% of the population, the games industry is likely to experience some growth in the coming years.

At the behest of the government a tech hub was launched in 2020 designed to boost technological adoption locally. A project that President Patrice Talon hopes will help turn his small West African country into a regional tech hotspot like Kenya or Rwanda.

Voice of the Developer

There is not yet a key event that shines the spotlight on the game locally. Everything is still to
be built in Benin when it comes to video games.

The scene is slow, but progressing with the country registering its first game jam in 2021. Most of the initiatives are being championed by Andounian Africa Lab, which has consistently been the driving force to spark game creativity in the country.
