Nigerian architect and game developer Odaro Eguavoen is turning the pressures of professional life into the foundation for The Lonely Architect, a 2D atmospheric platformer that explores isolation, overwork and the subconscious through surreal environments and architectural imagery.
Developed by Eguavoen under the name Ekosodi Games, The Lonely Architect places players inside the mind of an overworked architect who has become increasingly isolated by his demanding work schedule. After falling asleep following another day at work, the protagonist enters his own subconscious, where architecture begins to chip away at his sense of identity.
One of the game’s most distinctive elements is its visual language. Eguavoen draws inspiration from the traditional pen drawings used by 20th-century architects. These largely monochromatic drawings, traditionally used to communicate plans and guide construction, have been transformed into the physical world of The Lonely Architect.
Boxes, arches and other architectural forms become platforms and obstacles, while statues depicting the protagonist can themselves become part of the environment. The approach creates a visual connection between the protagonist and his profession, while also reinforcing one of the game’s central ideas: what happens when a person’s work begins to consume their identity.
The project has already begun attracting attention within Nigeria’s growing games development ecosystem. The Lonely Architect was showcased at Lagos Games Week 2026, where it was the only featured game made by a solo developer. It was also featured in the Afro Game Showcase.
The game was also selected as a Top 25 finalist in the Safe In Our World Mental Health Game Jam, further reflecting its focus on isolation, work-life balance and mental wellbeing. Early player reactions have highlighted the project’s atmosphere, music, world design and puzzles. Players quoted in the pitch materials describe the game as beautiful and atmospheric, while others praised its soundtrack, immersive soundscape and engaging puzzles.
The Lonely Architect is designed as a 2–4 hour experience and is currently in Early Access on itch.io, with a planned Steam and Xbox release later in 2026.
