Maliyo Games’ flagship talent development initiative moves beyond the cohort model with a new AI-powered learning platform built around learning, making and earning.

GameUp Africa, one of the most prominent game development talent initiatives to emerge from Africa in recent years, is entering a new phase. The programme has evolved into GameUp Academy, an always-on, AI-powered learning platform designed to help aspiring creators build skills, create practical work and progress towards opportunities in game development and related creative fields.

Over the past five years, GameUp Africa has attracted more than 6,000 applications from over 40 countries and supported the publication of 161 game projects, creating one of the continent’s most significant pipelines for emerging game development talent.

GameUp Academy is being positioned as an AI-powered learning platform, reflecting how rapidly AI is becoming integrated into both education and game development workflows. For emerging developers, AI potentially changes how learning can be delivered. Rather than relying entirely on fixed curricula and scheduled cohorts, intelligent systems can help learners navigate material, identify appropriate learning paths and progress at their own pace.

GameUp Academy carries forward the community, learning experiences and industry connections that GameUp Africa has built while opening the door to a broader, always-on way to learn, create and progress.
