South African studio Team Lazerbeam has announced that its highly anticipated fungal roguelike deckbuilder, Shroom and Gloom, will launch into Early Access on September 10, 2026.

The launch date was revealed by Team Lazerbeam across its social channels, marking a major milestone for the Johannesburg-based studio and a project that has built considerable momentum on Steam over the past year.

The announcement comes alongside a new developer diary introducing several of the game’s characters and mechanics, as Team Lazerbeam begins the final push towards its Early Access release.

According to the studio, players will initially be able to step into the roles of Lunchlady, Paperboy, Concerned Parent, Janitor and Activist, with additional characters planned to roll out during Early Access.

Shroom and Gloom combines first-person exploration with roguelike deckbuilding, using two distinct decks to drive exploration and combat. Players navigate hand-drawn, fungal-infested environments while building increasingly powerful card combinations to tackle the creatures lurking within them.

In September 2025, the studio revealed that content posted across TikTok and Instagram had generated more than nine million views in 30 days, helping Shroom and Gloom surpass 100,000 Steam wishlists.

That momentum continued into 2026. In February, the studio announced that the game had passed 150,000 wishlists, setting an ambitious target of 205,000 wishlists by launch. By June, Team Lazerbeam reported that the game had passed 200,000 wishlists, reaching 206,233 at the time of its announcement.

The studio is now targeting an even larger milestone.

In announcing the September 10 launch, Team Lazerbeam said it is hoping to reach 250,000 wishlists by launch, calling on its community to help “spread the spores” by interacting with and sharing the game’s social media posts.

The studio’s road to Early Access has already included a publisher partnership with Devolver Digital, the launch and continued development of its Steam demo, major wishlist milestones and growing visibility through social media. Shroom and Gloom is available to wishlist on Steam.
