A South African programmer has released his long-running indie game project after more than a decade of development. The game, titled Cadence, was created by developer Peter Cardwell-Gardner through his solo studio Made With Monster Love and launched on 12 February 2026.

Disclaimer: I’m personally delighted to finally have this game see the light of day having spoken to and discussed signing this game over a decade ago whilst helming publishing duties for Stockholm based indie studio – Might and Delight and following his stint at Swedish based incubator – Stugan.

Cadence is a minimalist puzzle game that blends logic puzzles with music creation. Players solve circuit-style puzzles that generate musical patterns, turning the game into an interactive music sandbox where users can experiment and share their creations through online features such as Steam Workshop.

Cardwell-Gardner began developing the project in 2013. Early attempts to fund the game included a 2015 Kickstarter campaign that sought to raise about £25,000, but the campaign did not reach its goal. He later launched an alternative crowdfunding effort that attracted several hundred backers, enabling him to continue working on the project while also pursuing other employment whilst the game was shelved for a period of time.

Cadence is available to buy on Steam now.
