Clockwork Acorn’s latest release, esCargo, has officially launched on their Itch.io page, offering a compact trading adventure that reflects both the studio’s evolving creative direction and the contributions of its newly expanded team.

The game, originally created for Ludum Dare 58, marks the first completed project produced by the studio since growing from a small core group into an eight-member team.

The expanded team came together for the first time during a studio retreat earlier this year, where the aim was as much about building internal cohesion as it was about producing something tangible. The result of that collaboration became esCargo, a game that places players in the role of a travelling merchant accompanied by a giant snail whose shell doubles as a mobile wagon. The journey from village to village blends trading, collecting, and problem-solving, culminating in the search for five missing baby snails that complete the final exchange of the game.

The jam version of esCargo was met with positive reception, ranking within the top hundred out of more than a thousand entries and receiving particularly strong scores for graphics, theme, and mood. The experience has now been polished into a publicly available browser release, serving as a snapshot of what the larger team has begun building together.

This period of change also included the studio’s participation in Playtopia, now concluded, where Upupa Bird Ninja appeared as part of the official 2025 selection. The showcased version featured new movement options, additional enemies, expanded abilities, and the introduction of time-rift challenge rooms, offering a point of reflection for future development.

As Clockwork Acorn heads into the final stretch of the year, the release of esCargo and the growth of the team stand out as defining markers of the studio’s current trajectory. With more substantial projects underway, the team looks toward the coming months with a renewed sense of direction shaped by this transitional phase.

You can play esCargo now on Itch.io.
