As part of a collaboration with AppMagic as well as to better understand the size and revenue generating potential across the African continent within the mobile gaming space, GIA has once again put the data being generated by Appmagic under a microscope to see what games topped the charts in the first half of 2023 as well as to see what the revenue generating trends are.

In our Top Selling Mobile Games of 2022 in Africa piece, we saw the dominance of PUBG Mobile in Algeria, where the game generated over $158k over twelve months.

That trend continues with the hugely popular shooter – PUBG Mobile still the top revenue generating game in the country over the first six months of 2023.

PUBG Mobile generated over $60k in the first half of the year with Rise of Kingdom and Age of Origins: Tower Defense accounting for about $44.5K and $22.3k respectively.

Rise of Kingdom which generated over $32k in 2022 has already surpassed that sum and is on track to double its performance in 2023.

In total, the top selling mobile games in Algeria accounted for over $167k with revenue generation on an upward trajectory. The lowest performing month was February with the top ten games accounting for $36k whilst the subsequent months experienced exponential growth to make June the top grossing month at over $49k with the top ten games.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll look at the revenue trends in Egypt, Nigeria and then South Africa before having a regular cadence of monthly sales figures from the four countries.
