As one of the recipients of the inaugural African Game Developer Prototype Fund in 2021, Kenyan developer Weza Interactive Entertainent has been stealthily toiling away behind the scenes on their upcoming project – Riziki. The studio has now provided a significant update on the progress and imminent plans for the game.
Riziki – a mobile first project, is a narrative rhythm game that takes its players through an experience of beautiful African Music. In an update provided by studio CEO George Ahere, he touched on their ambition to launch the game later in 2024.
“We currently have a polished prototype of the game playable on Android devices. We are also working on PC, but are prioritising the mobile version for now. We are currently working on our analytics, balancing the game and polishing our tutorial before our public playtest starting next month. We are working with the Gara Store to facilitate this. One of our goals is to launch the game in Beta this year. To do this we plan to implement a solid monetisation, progression, content strategy and asynchronous multipler by Q3 this year.”
Since the prototype funding received in 2021, the project has been financed through grants, client work, bootstrapping, investments and opportunities created by their Angel investors. After going through the Founder Institute program last year, they began working on getting Weza Interactive Entertainment through a seed round funding phase through connections they have made in Africa and Europe. This will allow them to increase their momentum and efficiency by growing the team, allowing them to tackle more projects.
“We are currently creating a strategy around social media marketing, influencer marketing and events to start growing our community and build hype before our beta launch. We have already identified and approached some influencers in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa and plan to grow that list. We currently working on a social media strategy to grow our tester list with the Kenyan Esports star “Beast“
We have also been talking to a couple of publishers. None have committed anything so far but many are keen to see our KPIs after a couple of public tests. We are primarily looking for a publisher for Western and Asian markets,” Ahere concluded.
