Maliyo Games, was recently featured by Apple in Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day editorial, underscoring its role as a pivotal player in Africa’s mobile gaming industry.

The App Store feature highlighted four of Maliyo’s titles — Safari City, Crazy Ludo, Whot King, and Secret Letter. Each game combines familiar mechanics with narratives inspired by African experiences, music, art, and traditions.

“This recognition from Apple, alongside our recent feature by Google, is another powerful validation of our vision,” said Hugo Obi, Founder of Maliyo Games. “We are proving that African stories and creativity belong on the global stage, while inspiring the next generation of developers across the continent.”

Earlier this year, Maliyo was also included in Google Play’s global #WeArePlay campaign, which profiled Obi and the studio’s journey from Lagos to international recognition. The campaign spotlighted Maliyo’s portfolio and its talent initiative, GameUp Africa, which trains aspiring developers across the continent.

According to Obi, GameUp Africa has reached more than 6,000 participants across over 20 African countries since its launch in 2021, providing skills in programming, game art, and audio design. Many graduates have gone on to contribute to game projects or establish their own studios.

“This milestone adds to a growing list of achievements for Maliyo Games, including Apple’s Africa Day App Store Feature and partnerships such as the Disney-backed Iwájú: Rising Chef project,” Obi noted.

The 2025 edition of GameUp Africa, which began in September, marks the programme’s fifth year and continues to support new cohorts of creators in African game design.

In addition, Maliyo Games announced the launch of its first developer-led conference, MaliyoCON 2025, scheduled for December in Lagos. The event will bring together creators, investors, policymakers, and industry leaders to explore opportunities in mobile entertainment and showcase African talent.
