Gamathon Nigeria 2025, a leading convention for video games, XR, animation, and digital creativity lands in Lagos from September 29 to October 4, 2025. Organized by Africacomicade, this year’s edition marks the sixth iteration of the event and the continental finale following successful regional tours in Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa earlier this year.
Under the theme “Bridge,” Gamathon 2025 seeks to deepen collaboration across Africa’s creative technology sectors, connecting innovators, investors, and policymakers while creating pathways for youth empowerment, job creation, and socio-economic growth. Building on last year’s “Thrive” theme, this edition shifts focus from celebrating resilience to actively linking regions, ideas, and opportunities across the continent.

The week-long convention promises a charged mix of workshops, masterclasses, and co-creation sessions led by African and global experts. Topics will range from entrepreneurship and intellectual property to gamification, XR, spatial computing, and interactive storytelling. On the business front, developers and studios will gain direct access to investors and accelerators, with highlights including an industry dinner, exclusive networking sessions, and a pitch competition offering a $2,000 prize pool for PC and mobile game creators.
Gamathon also doubles as a showcase of Africa’s creative power. Attendees will see exclusive new game unveilings, including Relooted, and meet rising stars like Cregon Studios. Google-backed projects from the Android Port Challenge will be officially launched, while the Android Game Development Program will debut, offering $30,000 in funding to support African developers. The festival will also spotlight standout successes such as Tossdown, alongside cultural showcases like the Pan-African Game Jam and the Creative Bloc Carnival.
With support from the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, the Lagos State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, and major partners like UNDP, Providus Bank, Sanlam Allianz, and MSI, Gamathon 2025 is cementing its reputation as the leading B2B2C hub for Africa’s gaming and immersive media industries.
Africacomicade’s founder, Michael Oscar, emphasized the global stakes: “The next billion players are coming from the continent. It’s crucial to position our youth as creators to ensure a sustainable future for our society and economy.”
