Africacomicade has announced the return of Gamathon, its flagship annual convention for Africa’s interactive and immersive media industry.

Now in its seventh year, Gamathon has become one of the continent’s main gatherings for the Animation, Video Games, Comics and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) sectors. It brings together studios, creators, brands and enthusiasts for a mix of closed-door industry conversations and public-facing celebration.

This year’s theme, “Back to our Roots,” calls on the industry to reassess its foundations, reconnect with the realities of the African market and establish a clearer direction for sustainable growth amid an increasingly uncertain global environment.

Gamathon 2026 follows an edition that expanded across four regional hubs in Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and Kenya. The previous convention challenged industry stakeholders to strengthen their local structures, business models and support systems before pursuing further expansion into international markets. It also concluded with the production of an industry documentary exploring the African interactive media landscape.

The 2026 edition continues that conversation, placing renewed emphasis on the foundations needed to support the continent’s creative industries over the long term. Gamathon 2026 will take place in Lagos, Nigeria, from October 26 to 31, followed by Nairobi, Kenya, from November 2 to 28. For more information and registration, head to the Gamathon website.
