South African developers, Team Lazerbeam have teased their latest project – Shroom and Gloom a first-person, roguelike deckbuilder that has you fending off mobs of monstrous mushrooms and mountains of mega-combos.

The studio which has just finalized work on its prototype shared the news on social media saying:

This is an early prototype, exploring the potential for Shroom and Gloom to be a full game! Our dream version of this game features hundreds of cards, deep metaprogression and scores of unique enemies, spread across a dense network of caves and tunnels to explore! This prototype offers a taste of what that experience could be. We’ve shot for the stars with what we tried to cram into this prototype over 3 months of development, and we’re really proud of what we pulled off. That said, please note that this is a prototype. Expect rough edges and some jank. Keep in mind this is all a work in progress.

Shroom and Gloom is being financed by Free Lives who appear are making early forays into the PC publishing space.

Formed in late 2014, when friends Jason Sutherland, Richard Pieterse and Ben Rausch joined forces to make a game for Ludlum Dare 31, Team Lazerbeam philosophy is on making short, cute, surreal, personal experiences about junk food and feelings.

The prototype is available to download on Itch.io now.
