South African indie studio Clockwork Acorn is inviting players to take up the blade as Feather’s Edge, its fast-paced metroidvania adventure, launched a playable demo on Steam on 2 October 2026.
The new demo offers players an early look at the studio’s ambitious original title, placing them in control of Upu, a hoopoe bird warrior tasked with saving the collapsing Tower of Time.
Described by Clockwork Acorn as a “tough-as-talons” kinetic adventure, Feather’s Edge combines fast-paced sword combat with platforming, exploration and tactical abilities. Rather than simply surviving encounters, players are encouraged to master the game’s movement and combat systems in order to overcome increasingly demanding challenges.
The demo arrives after a strong initial response to the project. Feather’s Edge was first revealed during the Indie Live Expo showcase on 25 April 2026, with its announcement trailer subsequently surpassing 650,000 views.
According to Clockwork Acorn, the game has also accumulated more than 43,000 Steam wishlists and 12,000 playtest registrations, signalling substantial interest ahead of its eventual full release.
Founded in 2014, Clockwork Acorn is a remote South African game development studio focused on what it describes as “timeless games with chunky design.”
The studio is perhaps best known for Jetstream and for its work on Terra Nil: Vita Nova, while Feather’s Edge represents a new original IP developed by the team.
The project is being supported by Outersloth, the indie funding initiative established by the developers of Among Us. According to Clockwork Acorn, Outersloth backed Feather’s Edge at an early stage of development, helping the project progress from its initial concept towards its current playable form.
Feather’s Edge demo is available to download now as well as wishlist.
