NewGen is entering a defining moment, as the Tunisian indie studio prepares to launch North Hunt into Early Access this April marking a significant evolution of the formula that first brought it international recognition with West Hunt.

Where West Hunt introduced players to a playful yet tense social deduction experience set in the American frontier, North Hunt transplants that core design into a Viking-era setting, trading dusty saloons for snow-covered villages and Norse-inspired intrigue.

This shift in setting is not merely cosmetic. NewGen has been deliberate in positioning North Hunt as a systemic leap forward. The studio has rebuilt key elements of the experience, from visual design to matchmaking infrastructure, aiming to deliver a more polished and immersive multiplayer environment. Early previews and development updates highlight a stronger emphasis on readability, player expression, and smoother onboarding areas that often define longevity in social multiplayer titles.

At its core, however, the identity of North Hunt remains rooted in the same social deception mechanics that powered West Hunt’s rise. Players must blend into AI-driven environments, complete covert objectives, and outmanoeuvre opponents who are actively trying to expose them.

This release arrives at a time when NewGen is already building considerable momentum. As previously reported by Games Industry Africa, the studio has continued to support West Hunt as a live service while simultaneously expanding its pipeline with multiple new projects, including North Hunt and additional titles that explore darker, more atmospheric genres. That broader strategy suggests a studio actively transitioning from a single-hit success into a multi-project developer with a diversified portfolio.

The success of West Hunt laid the groundwork for this expansion. Since its Early Access debut in 2022 and full release in 2024, the game has carved out a niche within the social deduction genre, driven by consistent updates, community engagement, and organic growth through content creators.

As North Hunt approaches its Early Access debut, the stakes are notably higher than they were for its predecessor. The game must satisfy an existing player base while also proving that NewGen can scale its ideas into a more mature and competitive multiplayer landscape.

North Hunt is set for an Early Access release on April 16th on Steam.
