Africa Games Week has released the full program for its eighth annual edition, scheduled for Monday, 1 December to Thursday, 4 December 2025. The event will take place at Workshop 17 in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, supported by the City of Cape Town.
The 2025 theme, Shining A Spotlight On The African Gaming Industry, frames the week as a platform for examining Africa’s developing role in the global gaming landscape. The focus for this edition falls on skills development, infrastructure, policy frameworks, and youth empowerment, with the intention of strengthening the foundations needed for a competitive and future-oriented industry.
AGW Director Nick Hall described the event as a collective effort to build ecosystems capable of supporting long-term growth and innovation. He noted that this year’s program aims to consolidate Africa’s position within international gaming by addressing areas that directly influence industry readiness.
Alderman JP Smith, representing the City of Cape Town, reaffirmed the city’s support. He highlighted the importance of hosting a forum that aligns with broader goals for digital innovation, economic development, and opportunities for young people in technology and creative sectors.
The program addresses several developments and challenges shaping the sector. Sessions on artificial intelligence will consider its impact on content creation, player engagement, and accessibility. Discussions on distribution models will explore approaches suited to reaching varied audiences across the continent. Conversations on funding will focus on financial pathways that can sustain emerging and established studios.
The four-day schedule opens with a VIP program at the SAE Institute, followed by two days of conference sessions at Workshop 17. The final day is dedicated to policy discussions and the Africa Games Awards.
Africa Games Week extends an invitation to developers, publishers, investors, and other stakeholders to participate in the 2025 event. The organisers emphasise the importance of shared engagement in advancing the continent’s gaming, technology, and digital economy sectors. The complete multi-speaker program is available for viewing through the event’s official channels.
