Free Lives, creators of the award-winning environmental strategy game Terra Nil, have launched Terra Nil – Waddle, a conservation initiative dedicated to adopting and protecting critically endangered African penguins, in partnership with SANCCOB.

Cape Town, the home base of Free Lives, is also home to some of the world’s largest African penguin colonies. When the Terra Nil team became fully aware of the urgent threats these birds face, they felt compelled to translate their game’s environmental message into meaningful, real-world action.

African penguins are critically endangered, facing extinction in the wild by 2035 if current trends continue. Habitat loss, declining fish populations, and human impact have severely reduced their numbers. Recognising this critical moment, the Terra Nil team took immediate action, launching Terra Nil – Waddle to inspire direct community involvement in conservation efforts.

Every penguin adopted through Terra Nil – Waddle directly funds SANCCOB’s vital rehabilitation and conservation work, providing essential resources such as food, veterinary care, and safe nesting environments. Each adoption helps ensure these iconic birds not only survive but thrive.
