In its debut showing, Xbox Game Studios Game Camp Africa took place virtually across the entire continent with approximately 600 campers participated in-person in 4 locations – Cairo, Johnannesburg, Lagos, and Nairobi. It has now been confirmed that the event will return for its second year in Africa.

Game Camp is an initiative that unifies various Xbox initiatives under one umbrella where talent is celebrated, and game developers are empowered to pursue their dreams. In 2023, panelists & presenters from Bethesda, Rare, XGS Publishing, GitHub, ID@Xbox and several external African-based companies delivered 14 presentations across 2 days for all in-person and virtual attendees on the continent.

In a post on social media, Game Camp founder Peter Zetterberg confirmed the initiatives return, “Game Camp Africa 2024 will run two conferences back-to-back, July 13-14 and July 17-19. We do this to ensure as many people as possible can find the time to participate. Just like last year we will run in-person viewing events in Cairo, Joburg, Lagos and Nairobi, and we will add four additional cities on the continent to invite more aspiring and established game developers to connect with each other. These four new cities will be revealed on May 20th when we open up for applications.”

To participate, individuals must be of legal age, reside in any country on the African continent and be studying or working part or full-time in the field of software development, visual arts, 3D, music and audio, web design, narrative design, or professional project management.
