A new African games showcase is aiming to give developers from across the continent the kind of global spotlight usually reserved for the industry’s biggest showcases.
Origin Point Games (OPG), a discovery platform dedicated to games made in Africa by Africans, will broadcast its Origin Point Games Showcase 2026 on 12 November at 20:00 SAST (18:00 GMT). The organisers describe it as a premium, broadcast-quality presentation built to put African studios in front of a global audience.
The organisation is preparing what it describes as a premium, broadcast-quality showcase dedicated to games made in Africa by African developers, with the ambition of creating a new global platform for the continent’s games industry.
The showcase arrives at the tail end of the industry’s busiest presentation season. In recent weeks, Nintendo Direct, Sony’s State of Play and Gamescom Opening Night Live have featured studios from Japan, Spain, the US and New Zealand, among others. OPG argues that the continent’s 54 countries remain largely absent from those stages, despite hundreds of studios and thousands of developers working across Africa.
“Hey global games industry, meet Africa. We develop games here too, and they are pretty amazing,” the team said in its announcement.
Every game in this year’s showcase was selected through a blind judging process. An external board reviewed submissions independently, without knowing the studio’s identity, background or reputation. According to OPG, the lineup was chosen on merit, creative ambition and showcase potential alone.
That board is made up of advisors and industry veterans, including former executives and developers from Sony PlayStation and Ubisoft.
The broadcast will stream on YouTube via the Origin Point Games Showcase 2026 premiere. Submissions for the 2026 edition are closed. Developers who want to be considered for next year’s showcase can apply through the Origin Point Games website.
