South African developer Vetkoek Studios has opened applications for a Roblox Game Development Accelerator, a two-week guided programme aimed at helping first-time and aspiring creators build and publish their own Roblox games.

The Roblox Accelerator is designed for people aged 18 and over who are not currently employed full-time, including students, unemployed developers and those working part-time. Applications are open until 30 September 2026, with the first two-week development phase scheduled to run from 12–26 October.

According to Vetkoek Studios, the accelerator is intended to go beyond conventional training programmes by combining education with development, testing and publishing support. The studio is offering R5,000 to each of the six games selected as Phase 1 winners, with additional R5,000 payouts available during subsequent two-week phases for qualifying projects. To qualify for the initial prize, developers must complete a playable prototype, meet agreed milestones, attend the programme’s workshops and incorporate feedback from Vetkoek Studios, among other requirements.

Importantly, applicants do not need previous Roblox development experience. Vetkoek Studios says the programme’s workshops will introduce participants to Roblox Studio, core programming principles and the tools required to begin developing on the platform. There is, however, an existing development requirement: applicants are expected to have created at least two prototype games, in any engine, with those prototypes having been developed within a relatively short period.

The accelerator also includes a commercial pathway for participating developers. Under Vetkoek Studios’ proposed publishing arrangement, the studio will register the game and developers will receive a 50% revenue share from income generated by the game. Participants retain the intellectual property rights to their games while granting Vetkoek Studios distribution and monetisation rights within Roblox and associated marketing materials.

In a social media post, Vetkoek Studios CEO Eric Gardiner is positioning the initiative as an opportunity for aspiring developers to test their ideas against real players rather than simply complete another training course.

“If you want make a game prototype that actually gets players, this is your opportunity to try out Roblox.”

Gardiner added that the objective is to personally guide participants through the development process, with the longer-term ambition of creating games capable of finding an audience.

“All participants will also get access to training, development resources and publishing support. I will be personally guiding the participants through the process of making a game with the goal of long term success.”
